Embarking on a magickal journey
When you think of Witchcraft, you think about candles & crystals. In all honesty that's all you really need to "Cast" a spell. In this blog we will be discussing the Magickal use of candles and why I feel that in a pinch, that's all you need to cast a spell. This blog is of my opinion and I will be linking sites with candles that I feel work well, (besides The Kitchen of Magick's choices of Magickal candles). Just a quick note, I am not affiliated with any of the brands that I will be suggesting in this blog, at least not yet.
History of the Candle
Witchcraft and candles have a very strong connection, dating back thousands of years. We have proof that the Ancient Egyptians used them to find answers from within. A practice that was prevalent was staring into a candle anticipating seeing a God, Spirit, or other Deity to guide the individual for the answer they were seeking.
Once Christianity came along they too used candles to "guide" the way to God. In early Christianity they adopted the sacred burning candle, changing the meaning and use of candles. In the 1500's they made use of the "holy" or "blessed" candle at the Altar. They also stole many practices from the Pagans and dramatically changed the use of candles within the practice.
In folklore candles had a and still do have a strong connection with the dead. Burning a candle to detect if a ghost was nearby, with the flame turning a blue hue. According to a Grimoire, candles made of human fat contained life energy, and were used in the Black Mass and other rituals of black magic in the 17th century.
Needless to say candles have always been associated with Magick and Ritual no matter what religion or practice you were associated with. Candles burning or the burning of a flame is also found in Native American Practices, as well as many other non-christian practices dating back farther than we can see.
Witchcraft, Wicca, and Practical Magic

In most Wiccan, and Witchcraft rituals, consecrated or Blessed white candles are strategically positioned on the altar or in some cases a pentacle drawn on the ground, to represent the four quarters of the "Magical" circle. Colored candles are used in almost all modern spell casting, with each color having a meaning and vibration to add to the spell.
As part of the preparatory process for casting a spell, it is to anoint a candle with a corresponding oil to enhance your Magical vibration. You may also carve your spell, desire, or banishment into the candle itself, rubbing the oil either one of two ways. Rubbing towards you to bring something to you or into your life, or away from you to banish or dispel something. You can also roll that oiled candle in corresponding herbs, resins, flowers, etc. to enhance your Magic.

For the love of color & Magick

No matter where you are in your Magickal path, the power of candles & color will always play a significant role. But we will not conclude this article without acknowledging a very important piece of Magickal information.
The Color White, many circumstances happen in our everyday lives and not every Witch or Magickal person can afford all the ingredients for candle Magick. This is where white plays a very important role.
Let's say you need 2 green and 2 yellow candles for a spell you're about to cast, and you're so broke that you can't even afford to spend but $3 at the dollar store. Lucky for you, you can use ANY white candle; taper, votive, tea light you name it.
Because WHITE is the universal color in ALL Magickal practices. All it takes is the power of the mind, by holding each candle and envisioning it being the "color" you need it, poof there you have the color that you need. In all fairness you don't even have to do that, I just like to add that part in if you're someone like me and needs a clear indication of what I am about to do.
The Conclusion
Candles, colors, and crystals are in my opinion the most important parts (besides herbs), in modern Magick. As humans most of us are tuned to be visual, and in Magick and Witchcraft visualization and visual objects help us to grasp the Magick we are working to add in that something "extra" for a powerful casting of a spell.
Never feel the need to buy more than you can afford, there are substitutions in all aspects of Witchcraft and Magick. Always be mindful of prices and make sure you know what something is supposed to look like before you buy it i.e. crystals. Sadly there are many Metaphysical shops that charge far too much for a small crystal or sell fake look- a -likes. Always know the ingredients before setting out to buy, and always look at reviews and feedback if possible on websites before purchasing.
Good luck on your Magickal journey, Blessed be!!!

In accordance with copy write laws, I hereby contest that I have written this article in my own opinion from practicing Witchcraft and Magick for over 20 years. I have read and done my own research and have practiced these methods, and they do work for me. Not everyone will receive the same results, nor am I saying these are the only ways to use and practice candle and color Magick.
